The Art of Reflection - Take Away from Lockdowns and Physical Distancing

2020 was the most anticipated and has been the most dramatic of all. Dealing with the pandemic has not been the easy on anyone but we stay positive.

It is a time we have to deal with both the pandemic and infodemic - the information overload. A lot to deal with I must say.

If nothing, this year has forced us to slow down and reflect. Reflection is the glue that cements learning experiences;  however, we are always learning and doing without reflecting.

What is reflection? It is the art of taking a pulse check and learning from our experiences. Reflection brings new perspectives; it creates a mental model of curiosity to the reason behind our actions. Reflection is a “man in the mirror” experience; you see yourself, sometimes your flaws but most importantly, everything that makes you special. Reflection gives back control when we think everything is out of control. Since reflection is about thinking, it drives innovation and new ways of doing what we do. Reflection helps you move on; it never as bad as we paint it.

Are we learning from our current situation? We fall into the trap of doing again and life becomes the rat race as usual. We continue to do the same thing in the same way and expect new results.

How can we reflect during this period?
1.Take short breaks to reflect on yourself and what you are doing.
2. Identify those areas where you need to reflect. It can be family, parenting, career , friendships, finances etc
3.Don’t beat yourself about failures and challenges; reflect, learn and move on.
4. Translate reflections to tangible actions. Just do it!
5. Reflect again on those actions along the way.
