Why not learn on your phone?
Stand at the
train station or by the bus stop and you will be amazed at how many people are
busy with their phones. There's an immediate attraction to what is happening on
our mobile phones. I must agree I'm not exempted too. Think of the number of
times you have glanced on your phone today.
Why can't we
leverage on the use of mobile phones for learning? We religiously
check our Linkedin, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook updates; why can't we
also check our online platform update too or corporate social media
page for learning updates. That beep is a call to learning.
Mobile learning
is interesting and it is a step away from the e-learning in a way. I think I
have read more articles and pdf documents on my phone than on my laptop. Mobile
learning gives a sizeable amount of information in an interesting way to
capture your attention and reflection in few minutes. Have you ever read an article
as you sat waiting for the bus or train or an appointment or a friend and
it got you thinking? Learning professional can leverage on the strength of
mobile learning. Too many people have phones to ignore that medium for
learning.
Sometimes we
bother about data or internet connection but we all receive text messages and I
know for sure that the phones we all use can do more than receive text
messages. It is time to complement our learning initiatives with mobile
learning. It is learning on the go; imagine exploring the world of learning as
you wait for a friend; imagine occupying your space with useful content while
you sat waiting for the doctor; imagine that video that could make all the
difference. Do you know how many people look to Youtube for learning? I think I
just did.
Mobile learning
can also be a good platform for sharing. Sharing content with colleagues in the
same way you share photos and updates. Just a reminder that it is everywhere we
go; mobile learning is not limited by where you are even the toilet
becomes a space for learning. So many people use their phones in the toilet
too. Have you thought about that too? Even new born seems so fascinated by
mobile phones.
Mobile learning
offers so many opportunities. It is time to seize that opportunity for
learning. I'm calling on corporate organizations and international experts to
tap into this opportunity. It's time to have a learning viral video. What do
you think?
